On Thursday March 6, Superintendent Brewer visited Manual Arts High School and discussed LAUSD's Innovation Division with union leaders, administrators, teachers, parents and students. Joined by Carol Truscott, superintendent of local district 7, A. J. Duffy, president of UTLA, and Ed Trimis, principal of Manual Arts, he announced that Manual Arts would soon be given the opportunity to vote to join the Innovation Division with Mentor LA and WestEd serving as co-network providers.
Mr. Brewer urged local stakeholders and the network providers to begin conversations about the Innovation Division with Muir Middle School and other schools that feed into Manual Arts. The ultimate success of Manual Arts would depend on this "family" of schools working together.
According to Kathi Littman, Director of the Innovation Division, teachers and parents will be given the opportunity to vote in May, 2008.
